Esther Klein, PH.D.

Dr. Esther Klein is a postdoctoral resident who specializes in the treatment of trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and parent-child attachment related concerns for children, adolescents, and adults.

Dr. Klein is passionate about helping people understand themselves and their challenges with greater clarity, which often contributes to a space where healing can occur. She does so in a warm, reflective, and engaging manner. In her work, she uses a psychodynamic perspective, which means thinking about problems in one’s current life and any connections with their past. Additionally, she works in highly individualized ways with each of her clients often incorporating elements from mind-body approaches, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), play therapy, and most importantly following the lead of her clients to be what they need as they
gravitate towards healing.

Dr. Klein is particularly interested in parental loss/absence, attachment trauma, and abandonment experiences. Her research focuses on parental abandonment, in order to understand how this experience might impact the self and other relationships, and is deeply familiar with the dynamics that present themselves. This has been helpful in her work with children in foster-care and post-adoption, children of divorce, as well as individuals of different ages who experienced less than ideal parenting and have relational difficulties with friends and partners.

Dr. Klein completed her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Adelphi University. She earned her Master’s degree from Teachers College, Columbia University in Psychology in Education and her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Touro College. She completed her APA- accredited predoctoral internship at Child Guidance Center, a community mental health clinic in Stamford, CT. During her doctoral training, Dr. Klein had various clinical experiences in New York City including the Center for Psychological Services at Adelphi University, an adult inpatient unit at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital, and JCCA Foster-Care Services.
