Gabrielle Avery-Peck, Ph.D

Postdoctoral Fellow

Gabrielle Avery-Peck, Ph.D. specializes in the treatment of anxiety and mood disorders including Social Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Specific Phobia, Separation Anxiety Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in children, adolescents, and adults. She emphasizes a collaborative approach, working with clients to understand their fears and encouraging them to become their own therapists over time. Dr. Avery-Peck feels strongly about using evidenced-based techniques in her work with clients, and works primarily from a cognitive behavioral perspective. By emphasizing the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviors clients will gain greater insight into their concerns and learn techniques for managing their anxiety. To target the behavioral aspects of anxiety she frequently incorporates exposure and response prevention (ERP) into her work and helps clients to engage in exposures both in the office and in real-world settings. Trained in sport and performance psychology, Dr. Avery-Peck also has a special interest in working with athletes. She emphasizes the connection between the mind and body while addressing issues relating to the optimal performance and well-being of athletes. In addition to working with individual athletes, Dr. Avery-Peck also provides services for teams, coaches and parents which includes conducting workshops on a variety of topics, such as leadership skills, team-building, coaching, and motivation.

Background

Dr. Avery-Peck received her Bachelor of Arts from Vanderbilt University, her Master of Education in Counseling and Sport Psychology from Boston University and her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Boston University. She completed an APA Accredited predoctoral internship at Florida Atlantic University’s Counseling and Psychological Services. She was trained in cognitive behavioral therapy and exposure therapy at the McLean Anxiety Mastery Program, a division of McLean Hospital’s Child and Adolescent Services.
